American athlete, outside tackle for the Houston Oilers, drafted by the team in 1989. In 1993 the Oilers fined him a week's pay, over $100,000, because he attended the birth of his baby on October 16, 1993 at about 6:30 PM in Houston. The Oilers were scheduled to play the New England Patriots, Timing and weather conditions prevented him from being able to fly to Boston after his son was born and the Oilers' management made the decision to dock his pay. An outroar from the fans, protesting management decision, became known as "babygate." Management persisted, noting that Williams made the wrong decision when he chose to attend his son's birth over being with his teammates at the game.
Williams retired from the game in 1996.
