Biography
American football defensive end who played in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles (1985-1992) and Green Bay Packers (1993-1998), finishing up his career with the Carolina Panthers (2000). His pro-football career began in 1984 with the Memphis Showboats, and he joined the Philadelphia Eagles the year after. At the end of the 2000 season, he retired from football after 15 years and two NFL "Player of the Year" awards. An ordained minister, his nickname was "Minister of Defense." The athlete died on 26 December 2004, just one week after his 43rd birthday, at Presbyterian Hospital in Huntersville, North Carolina. While the cause of death was not immediately known, White had suffered from sarcoidosis for years, a respiratory ailment that caused sleep apnea, and doctors speculate that the condition may have led to fatal cardiac arrhythmia.
