French pharmacist and chemist, and member of the Société chimique de France, which he chaired from 1955 to 1957. He was also the author of well-documented biographies of Lavoisier, Berthelot, and Priestley, and a series of articles on other chemists.
The "Prix Léon Velluz" is a prize offered by the French Académie des sciences since 1986.
He died on 28 May 1981 in Paris, aged 76.
