Spanish Catalan historian and arabist philologist, Hebrew scholar and translator.
He was assistant professor of semitic languages at the University of Barcelona. He began to compile Arab references related to the history of Catalonia in the National Library of Madrid and in Morocco. He was a professor at the University of Madrid for Hebrew language and literature from 1926 to 1932, where he cataloged the eastern translations of the Toledo Cathedral Library. In 1932, he was able to return to Barcelona, as a professor of Hebrew and Arabic at the University of Barcelona. He visited the Vatican Library to catalog Hebrew manuscripts of Catalan origin (1935) and also the Hebrew University of Mont Scopius (1937-1938). He was the teacher of Joan Vernet.
He wrote 36 books and more than 180 articles and participated in the creation of the Hebraic-Catalan Library ,the Cambó Foundation (1929),the magazine of the Sefarad School of Hebraic Studies (1941),the Arias Montano Institute of the CSIC ( 1945),the "Hebrew-Spanish Library" (1945), the Institut d'Estudis Gironins (1946), the Association for the History of Spanish Science (1949), etc.
He died 26 September 1970 in Barcelona.
