Biography
American attorney, elected to the Mining Foundation's Hall of Fame in 2002. A graduate from the University of Southern California (1931,) he earned his law degree at the same institution in 1934, graduating with honors. After gaining admission to the Bar, he landed a job as attorney for the Industrial Commission of the State of Arizona, where he stayed until 1942. WWII intervened, and he served as a Captain in the Office of the Quartermaster general in Washington, D.C.
Returning to Phoenix after the war, he entered private practice and specialized in the legal issues facing the mining industry. He became highly respected for his knowledge and skills in public lands laws and, with members from his law firm, wrote what is considered one of the authoritative works on mining law.
He and his wife Zoraida had one son, Howard, Jr.
Twitty died November 9, 1989.
