Biography
Dutch landscape architect.
He was the second of six children of the carpenter Jan George Tersteeg (1835) and Magdalena Elisabeth Antonetta Antonijsen (27 November 1847, Amsterdam. - 22 Februari 1917, Naarden).
After the Higher Civil Scool (HBS), he took a course at the horticultural Linnaeus in Watergraafsmeer, Amsterdam (1982)). First he was a grower in Naarden (1899) together with his brother Jan Georg. Jan later moved to Canada. Since 1903 he has worked as a landscape architect. In 1903 he married Henriette Sophia Margaretha Goedkoop (4 Sept 1876, Amsterdam - 1966). They got four children. The lived at the nursery, where they grew the trees needed for the parks he designed.
He designed the Broersepark in Amstelveen, the gardens of Castle de Hooge Vuursche in Baarn, the City Park in Sittard and the Garden of Castle Vliek in Ulestraten. His style, Nieuwe Architectonische Tuinstijl, used brick walls. It was criticized by Springer.
He travelled a lot and visited Florence, Rome, Orleans, Trier, Düsseldorf and Paris.
On 29 August 1936 he was knighted.
He died 8 December 1942 in Amersfoort, after five years of disease.
