Biography
Australian pharmacologist, physician, epidemiologist, author, and professor, who development of an anti-venom for the Sydney Funnel web spider, he headed the Australian Venom Research Unit, Department of Phamacology at the University of Melbourne.
An ardent venom researcher, he devoted the 28 years prior to this teaching position conducting his research and serving as an advisor on patient care. He, along with his colleagues, developed the antivenom in 1980.
Sutherland died in Melbourne, Australia, on January 11, 2002.
