Norwegian child psychologist and feminist. In 1931 she was the first woman in Norway to obtain a magister degree in psychology, at the University of Oslo, thus becoming Norway's first female psychologist. She lectured at UiO from 1947 to 1973.
In 1934 she founded the Norwegian Psychological Association. She contributed to the setting up of a national Children's Ombudsman, which was established in 1981, making Norway the first country in the world to establish an Ombudsman for Children. The first ombudsman was Skard's daughter psychologist Målfrid Grude Flekkøy.
In 2005 the Norwegian Psychological Association founded a prize in her honour.
Gruda Skard died on 13 August 1985 in Bærum, Norway, aged 79.
