Biography
American mathematician of Russian descent, who worked in U.S. military intelligence as a cryptanalyst during World War II and for the National Security Agency (NSA) in the Post-war period.
In 1966, he wrote Elementary Cryptanalysis: A Mathematical Approach (published by the Mathematical Association of America), which was one of the first books on the subject available to the general public.
Abraham Sinkov lived in retirement in Arizona after two careers, 32 years in NSA (and its predecessors), followed by an appointment as a professor of mathematics at Arizona State University.
Abe Sinkov died on 19 January 1998, aged 90, in Maricopa, Arizona.
