Biography
French ceramist, painter, sculptor and photographer, known as Sébastien.
Winner of the Prix Blumenthal (Blumenthal Prize) in 1936, he exhibited about forty works at the international exhibition in Paris in 1937. He participated in international exhibitions in New York and San Francisco in 1939, as well as in the Triennale of Milan where he won a gold medal.
He received many awards including two diplomas of honour in Florence in 1953 and 1955, a Silver Medal at the Brussels World's Fair in 1958, a Medal of Honour of the Civic Merit in 1963, a diploma of honour at Vallauris in 1966, a Medal of Honour at the Salon de la Marine in 1968, and a Gold Medal of Arts, Sciences, Letters in 1970.
Sébastien died on 2 July 1990 in Paris, aged 81. In June 1993, Centre d'art Sébastien (The Sébastien Art Centre) was inaugurated in Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer in the Var with a bequest of 182 works by the artist.
