Biography
German gynaecologist and obstetrician who developed the basis for radiotherapy for malignant diseases of the female genital organs. Under his leadership, the University Women's Hospital in Erlangen developed into the largest German radiotherapy centre of the time. He continued his work in Frankfurt am Main with investigations on the radiotherapeutic treatment of benign diseases. He developed the concept of temporary castration with Hermann Wintz and applied the radiation to inflammatory diseases.
Seitz, like his pupil Wintz, oversaw compulsory sterilizations and abortions performed at the Frankfurt University Gynaecological Clinic during the time of National Socialism (Nazism). He was also accused of having campaigned for racial hygiene and its implementation.
He died on 19 June 1961 in Pfaffenhofen an der Roth.
