Biography
German politician of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (German: SPD) in exile and resistance fighter against the Nazis.
Schoettle joined the SPD in 1919 and after 1920 was state chairman of the Socialist Working Youth (SAJ) in Württemberg and was hired by the Swabian Tagwacht and People's Daily newspapers. Since 1927, he was part of the National Executive Committee of the Wuerttemberg SPD, then he was party secretary in 1931 in Stuttgart, where he worked closely with Kurt Schumacher.
In exile, from 1933 to 1939 he led the SPD Secretariat for Southwest Germany from St. Gallen, Switzerland, he also was a member of New Beginning, the London-based group he headed in late 1939.
Schoettle played an important role in the founding of the Union of German Socialist organizations in the UK, on whose board he served. From 1947 to 1962 he was part of the SPD in Baden-Württemberg on the national executive.
He died on 25 January 1976 in Baden-Baden at age 76.
