Biography
Swiss composer and musician, considered one of the principal composers of his time. Known for writing music that is melodic, Schoeck’s works include "Massimilia Doni" and "Penthesilea."
Son of the painter Alfred Schoeck, Othmar studied in Zürich before briefly becoming a pupil under the guidance of Max Reger in Leipzig in 1907. After returning to Zürich, he conducted choral societies until 1917, and between 1917 and 1944, he was the conductor of symphony concerts at Sankt Gallen.
He died March 8, 1957.
