Biography
French author of short stories, novels, non-fiction and plays whose work has been translated into over 40 languages. His "Don Juan on Trial" was first perfomed on stage in 1991. His 1993 drama "The Visitor" won several Molière awards the following year. His success enabled him to quit his job as a teacher/professor to dedicate himself to his writing.
His first novel, "The Sect of the Egoists," was published in 1995. The prolific author's awards include the Grand Prix du Théâtre, bestowed in 2001 by The French Academy.
In 2003 "Monsieur Ibrahim et les fleurs du Coran" (in English: M. Ibrahim and the Flowers of the Koran) was adapted for film by François Dupeyron. Omar Sharif played the title role and won a César award for best actor in 2004.
He has lived in Brussels since 2002 and obtained Belgian Citizenship in 2008.
