Biography
Belgian ophthalmologist and professor of ophthalmology at the University of Ghent, who published an influential textbook of ophthalmology, Cours d’ophtalmologie, in 1853. He became director of the Institute of Ophthalmology of Brabant in 1853, where he remained active until his death. Van Roosbroeck was known as an excellent surgeon and King Leopold I was one of his famous patients. He died on 1 July 1869, aged 59.
