American athlete and sports announcer, Remy was drafted by the California Angels in 1971 and began his major league baseball career on April 7, 1975.. He transferred to the Boston Red Sox in 1978, and gave up his pro ball career in 1984 after a knee injury sidelined the second baseman. In March 1988 he entered the broadcasting field as an announcer and sports analyst for the Boston Red Sox.
He is married with three children. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in late 2008 and underwent surgery in November. No follow up treatment was needed but in January 2009 an infection sent him back to the hospital. At spring training in April 2009 he and his co-workers realized that he had changed and he announced in May that he would take a leave of absence to deal with his illness. Still on his leave in mid-August 2009, he acknowledged that he has been suffering from depression, another reason that he has not been seen in the announcers' booth for most of the season.
