Biography
American stockbroker, the President of Merrill Lynch in 1968, worth over $10 million by 1979. From a lower middle-class family, he won a scholarship and worked his way through Harvard. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corp in WW II, he trained in the Merrill Lynch brokerage house. By age 49, he was President. Direct, candid, even brusque, he is a conservative and a workaholic in 11-hour days.
Regan married in 1942 and has four kids. On 12/03/1980, President Reagan phoned him to ask if he would take the post of Secretary of the U.S. Treasury in 1981. In 1986 he became Chief of Staff where he was a central figure in the allegations concerning his alleged involvement in the Iranian Arms scandal. He resigned on 2/28/1987. His book, describing his years with President Reagan was published 5/09/1988, "Off The Record." Regan’s relationship with Nancy Reagan was strained and became even more so when he revealed that she had been consulting an astrologer to assist her husband in conducting business, traveling, and making public appearances.
Regan died at age 84 on June 10, 2003 in Williamsburg, VA.
