Biography
French landscape painter.
Ravier began studying law but he abandoned to devote himself to painting. Pupil of Theodore Caruelle Aligny. Ravier befriended with Corot, Daubigny, experienced in Rome Ingres and Hippolyte Flandrin. He moved to Crémieu in 1850, then Morestelin 1868, attracted by the brightness of the landscape. The welcome and the advice he gave to many artists have created works near invoice that was known as the School of Morestel.
Progressive blindness darkened his last years.
Admirer of Turner, François-Auguste Ravier composed by color, often neglecting the lines, emphasizing light and shadow. In this, it can be considered a precursor of Impressionism.
He died 26 June 1895, Morestel.
