Biography
American writer, a novelist, considered to be one of the foremost voices in Southern literature.
Except for a few years spent in England on a Rhodes scholarship, Price lived most of his life in North Carolina.
His first novel, "A Long and Happy Life," was published in 1962 to critical acclaim. In addition to writing novels, he wrote plays, poetry and essays. A paraplegic since 1984 after radiation treatment for a spinal tumor, Price continued to write despite suffering great pain.
In 1989 he published a memoir. For many years, he taught writing at Duke University; his interest in John Milton led him to add courses on the great English writer to his teaching repertoire.
Price suffered a fatal heart attack on January 20, 2011
