Biography
American composer of popular music and many successful musical comedies, as well as music for the movies. As a young man he studied law before changing his subject major to composition. His songs include "Begin the Beguine," and "Night and Day." From 1928 to 1958, his songs were everywhere.
Porter had a devoted but sexless marriage and an active, closeted gay life. In 1937 he had a horseback-riding accident that crushed his legs and left him in excruciating, constant pain.
Porter died 10/15/1964, Santa Monica, CA.
