Canadian actor and writer with a career spanning five decades. He became a familiar face to television audiences in the 1960s when he first appeared in "Scarlett Hill" and the children's series, "The Forest Rangers" He created, " A Gift to Last" and starred in the series It's pilot episode was subsequently adapted for the stage and can often be seen in regional theatres in Canada during the Christmas season.
In 1979 he was made an officer of the Order of Canada and was promoted to Companion in 1998. In 2006, he was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
Pinsent published his memoir "By the Way" in 1992.
He married Irene Reid in 1951; they later divorced after having two children. In November 1962, he married actress Charmion King and they have a daughter Leah. Charmion died on January 6, 2007.
