American social activist who became a terrorist, one of ten members of the radical militant group, the Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA). Sympathetic to the black liberation struggle, she lived with a black musician named Perry, and visited blacks in prison. In June 1973, she helped organize the underground "combat unit" of the SLA.
On 11/06/1973, she and Patricia Soltysik killed black educator Marcus Foster with cyanide bullets. On 1/10/1974, they torched the SLA headquarters after some of their members were picked up by the police, and went underground.
On 2/04/1974, in Berkeley, the SLA group kidnapped heiress Patty Hearst. Perry was involved in the bank holdup (along with the now-brainwashed Hearst) on 4/15/1974. The following month, the terrorist group was apprehended in the house where they holed up in defiance of the police and swat teams. On 5/17/1974 there was a violent shoot-out in which Perry was killed. Soltysik succumbed to gasses from a fire which broke out during the melee.
