Biography
Italian pioneer surgeon, the first to perform a suture of the spleen (splenorrhaphy) and the second in Italy to perform a suture of the heart. He published works on surgical semiotics and surgical techniques include Istituzioni di semeiotica chirurgica (1897), I tumori della lingua (1899), La chirurgia del cuore (1902), and Contributi di terapia e tecnica chirurgica (3 volumes, 1925-28).
He died in Palermo on 21 May 1933, aged 67.
