Biography
Dutch preacher in free municipalities.
Paauwe was a reformed pastor in Yerseke (1901) and Bennekom (1907). In 1913 he fell into conflict with the boards of the Dutch Reformed Church on registration of liberal baptism members of his congregation who had made confession elsewhere. Earlier, he had refused them a certificate of good conduct (1911). Paauwe and his church were in 1914 suspended and then fired.
But he was still asked to preach "vrije gemeenten". The writer Jan Siebelink called him "J.J. Poort" (JJ Gate) in his famous novel "Kneeling on a bed violins" , and the Aischylos translator Gerard Koolschijn (1945) described him in his autobiography "Geen sterveling weet". Both their fathers were followers, the jurist mr. J. H. Koolschijn was his biographer.
He died on Ascension Day in 1956. And even after his death, his sermons can be downloaded.
