Biography
American writer, a novelist and poet as well as teacher and critic.
After a stint in the US Army during WWII, he completed his college education, subsequently earning his master's and Ph.D. degrees. He began teaching at the North Carolina State University in 1962 after publishing a book of poems, founding a magazine ("Impetus") and writing a novel, "Season of Fear" (1960).
His book, "Ballad of the Flim-Flam Man" (1965) was later made into a movie.
He died of cancer of the liver on July 25, 1981 in Raleigh, NC.
