Biography
Romanian-American soccer player and manager who represented and coached the Romania national soccer team.
Oană was born to Austrian-born Romanian parents who emigrated to the USA from Transylvania before the outbreak of World War I. In 1921, his parents moved back to their homeland, settling in Sibiu after the 1918 Union of Transylvania with Romania. Oană began his soccer career with local side Șoimii Sibiu. He joined Juventus București in 1937.
Oană made two appearances for the Romania national soccer team, his debut was a friendly against Hungary in October 1939.
After he retired from playing, Oană became a soccer coach. He managed Petrolul Ploiești (1952–1965), Romania (1965-1966, 1967) and Greek Superleague side Panserraikos (1969-1970). He won two Romanian league and one Romanian Cup titles with Petrolul.
Ilie Oană died on 27 April 1993, aged 74.
