Unconventional Dutch woman, whose life was depicted by the journalist and writer Annejet van der Zijl in 2004. Her best-seller Sonny Boy was a reconstruction of the forbidden love between the Surinamese student Waldemar Hugh Nods (1 September 1908, Paramaribo - 3 May 1945, Lübeckerbocht, near Neustadt, Neuengamme) and the married housewife Rika Hoogwater-van der Lans (29 September 1891, Den Haag - February 1945, Ravensbrück) against the backdrop of the 1930s and the Second World War.
In 2004 Annejet Van der Zijl (6 April 1962, Oterleek) tresented the book Sonny Boy to Waldeamr Jr., the child of Waldemar Nods and Rika van der Lans. Some 600.000 Dutch books were sold. In an interview with Trouw, Christmas Eve 2005, she said: "Juist ware verhalen hebben zeggingskracht... Mensen horen graag over de keuzes die anderen in hun leven maakten. Misschien juist nu, in onzekere tijden." (True stories are convincing. People are keen to hear the choices made by others in their lives. Maybe especially now in uncertain times.)
