Biography
Called "charro cantor" was a singer (baritone) and Mexican actor. He was one of the iconic actors of "Golden Age" of Mexican cinema. He founded the Union of Film Production in Mexico and reorganized, along with a select group of actors, the National Association of Actors (ANDA), leading it effectively. He was married at the end of his life with actress Maria Felix . The wedding on the grounds of Catipoato (now ex-Hacienda de Tlalpan), featured the most noted celebrities show, besides characters intellectual milieu, as Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, Maria Teresa Montoya, Octavio Paz, plus bullfighters and famous athletes of the time. The day of his death (5 December 1953) was considered national mourning and observed five minutes of silence in all cinemas of the country. Only at the airport in Mexico City nearly 10,000 people gathered to receive his body. A human wall of hundreds of thousands of fans skirted the path of the Theatre of the National Association of Actors (today Teatro Jorge Negrete) to the Pantheon Garden, south of Mexico City.
