Biography
Italian poet, prose writer, editor, and translator who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1975.
Montale was the youngest of six sons. He was a self-taught man.
Montale wrote a relatively small number of works. Alongside his imaginative work he was a constant contributor to Italy's most important newspaper, the Corriere della Sera.
He was influenced by Dante.
He won many literary prizes and much critical acclaim.
He died 12 September 1981, Milan, Italy.
