Biography
Scottish-born father, a physician who, with his physician wife Kate, was vacationing in Portugal when their daughter, Madeleine McCann, went missing on May 3, 2007. The disappearance was much covered in the news and the parents were suspects for a while. While there have been several suspects, including Kate McCann, to date (late 2008), the authorities have not been able to hold or convict anyone in the disappearance and possible death of the child.
Madeleine was born on May 12, 2003 in Leicester, England--no time known. She was last seen on May 3, 2007 at about 8:30 PM local time in Praia da Luz, in the Algarve region. The couple told Portuguese police that they had left their three children, Madeleine and their younger twins, in the ground-floor apartment they had rented while they were at a nearby restaurant. When they returned, Madeleine had gone missing.
