Biography
German airline pilot and presumed mass murderer, working since autumn 2013 for Lufthans as A320 pilot. His maternal grandfather H. T., a medical doctor (pediatrician), had immigrated around 1970 from Romania to Neuburg/Donau in Germany, with his wife S. and his daughter U., mother of Andreas. Andreas Lubitz was possibly born in Neuburg, and moved with his family at age six, according to press reports, to Montabaur. Another possible place of birth is Bangkok, where his father, Günter Lubitz, was posted as Production Manager and Technical Director, Bangkok Glass Industry, from 1985 to 1988.
He was the co-pilot of Germanwings Flight 9525, which crashed into the French Alps on 24 March 2015 killing him along with 149 others. Lufthansa executives and the French and German prosecutors investigating the case believe that Lubitz deliberately crashed the plane. On 2 April 2015, it was revealed that the Lubitz's tablet had been searched and his browser history had been evaluated by the authorities. The result was that he had apparently planned the suicide, searching the web for suicide methods and cockpit door security, until the day before the flight.
It has also been revealed that Lubitz had a history of depression, bipolar disorder and psychiatric treatment.
