Biography
Canadian poet, short-story writer, essayist, and professor, known for his "tell it like it is" style which won him a wide following, but also made him enemies. Irving Layton is recognized in Canada and abroad as a prolific, versatile, revolutionary and controversial poet.
At his height, Layton was Canada’s most celebrated poet.
Layton remained prolific until the 1990s when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, the disease that eventually led to his death on 4 January 2006 at age 93.
