German painter, set designer/builder and art director for stage and film. He worked on around 60 films from 1939 to 1968 including Viktor and Viktoria (1957) and Mädchen in Uniform (1958).
After graduating from secondary school, Kutz received practical training as a decorative painter and worked in this profession and as a set designer for theatre and film. In 1939 he made his debut as a film set designer for a short film, Wenn ein kleines Mädel spielt.
From 1943 to 1961, he worked alongside production designer Emil Hasler. While Hasler was responsible for the designs of the film sets, Kutz took care of their execution. In 1963, after Hasler's career ended, Kutz became a partner with Wilhelm Vorwerg. They formed a solid team for the next five years and mainly implemented the scenes for the popular Edgar Wallace crime films.
Walter Kutz died in Berlin on 11 August 1983 at age 79.
