Biography
German occultist, theosophist and author of esoteric works. He also published under his Latinized name Carolus Kiesewetterus.
Kiesewetter lived in Meiningen and was a member of the theosophical Lodge Germania. He wrote numerous articles for the theosophical journal Sphinx and was considered one of the most creative and powerful occult writers of his time. He examined numerous sources for his works on the history of occultism and presented important material for later parapsychology.
Kiesewetter also experimented with alchemy, natural drugs and witch ointments. He discovered that the application of the Solanum alkaloid hyoscyamine, which he himself depicted, caused visions of flying. He finally died in a self-experiment with henbane on 15 April 1895 in Meiningen.
