Biography
French trader, allegedly at the center of a huge financial scandal at one of France's largest investment banks. In the summer of 2000 he landed a job with the financial firm of Société Générale. Nearly eight years later, on January 18, 2008, the banking firm claimed that he had falsified trades to conceal the fact that he had risked $73 billion (50 billion Euros) in the futures market. By then the bank had lost over $7 billion ($4.9 billion Euros) and Kerviel was labeled a rogue trader..
On August 31, 2008 he was ordered to stand trial for forging documents, illegally accessing unauthorized computer systems at the bank and abusing his position. Kerviel has said that some of his superiors were complicit in the scheme. He is scheduled to stand trial sometime in 2010.
