Biography
Turkish-born American film and stage director, best-known for introducing Marlon Brando and James Dean to the silver screen, in "A Streetcar Named Desire" and "East of Eden", respectively. Kazan testified twice before the U.S. House Committee on Un-American Activities (HUAC), at first refusing to "name names" on 14 January 1952, but then changing his mind on 10 April 1952.
He was awarded a "Lifetime Achievement" Academy Award on 21 March 1999.
He died in New York City on 28 September 2003.
