Biography
German doctor who became the first habilitated woman in the German Reich when she was accepted by the Medical Faculty of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in 1918. On 20 December 1918 she gave her first lecture, and from 1919 she worked as a private tutor at LMU.
Hartmann conducted research in the field of renal development as well as the effects of X-rays and cathode radiation.
In 1927 she fell ill with breast cancer and had to interrupt her teaching activities. In 1932 she became a Conservator at the Anatomical Institute in Munich. After having spent a long holiday abroad in 1935, Adele Hartmann died in Munich on 15 December 1937.
