American clergyman, author and one of the sons of Frank Sutliff Hackett, founder of Riverdale Country School, a co-educational, independent, college-preparatory day school in New York City.
Allen Hackett served as pastor of the Central Union Church in Honolulu, Hawaii (1944-1951), minister of the Pilgrim Congregational Church, St. Louis, Missouri (1951-1962) and as area minister for the United Church of Christ in Boston, Massachusetts (1962-1971).
He wrote a biography of his father, Quickened Spirit (1957) and For the Open Door (1964), a book on the Church and race issues.
He died of cancer on 25 July 1989 at age 83 in Concord, New Hampshire after a long illness.
