Costa Rican sculptor, lawyer, farmer and bank manager. He was one of the most important sculptors of the sixties in Costa Rica. He devoted himself to sculpture being a mature man, 40 years old. He began his studies in sculpture in 1957 in Woodstock (New York), with the American sculptor Harvey Fite. In the beginning, he devoted himself to sculpt animals, following the sculptural tradition of 1930. In 1960, he entered the national art world, producing his most significant works. member of Group 8, generation of Costa Rican artists who pushed the national art was. He won the National Sculpture Prize twice, in 1961 and 1969. Between 1982 and 1986 he was Minister of Culture during the government of Luis Alberto Monge Alvarez.
He died in San Jose on 14 October 1987.
