Biography
American politician, former U.S. Representative from Kansas and former Secretary of Agriculture, head of Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) from September 1, 2004, succeeding Jack Valenti.
Glickman is a 1962 graduate of University of Michigan and earned his J.D. from George Washington University in 1969. From 1969-1970 he had a private law practice and then served as a trial attorney for the US Securities and Exchange Commission. An eight-term Congressman from January 3, 1977-1995, he chaired several committees in the House. He lost his 1994 bid for Congress and was appointed Secretary of Agriculture under President Clinton in 1995. He was sworn in on March 30, 1995 and held the position for the entire eight years of the Clinton White House. In 2002 he was appointed director of the Institute of Politics at Harvard University.
Glickman has been married since 1966 to Rhoda (Yura) Glickman from Detroit and they have two children.
