Peruvian writer, journalist and diplomat. In the field of literature he dabbled in poetry, essays and drama. He joined the Faculty of Arts at the National University of San Marcos (1909). In 1910 at the outbreak of war with Ecuador, he enlisted as a soldier in the Cavalry Regiment No. 7 of the Peruvian Army. When things calmed down, he traveled to Buenos Aires, where he was editor of the daily La Razon. In 1911 he returned to Lima as a correspondent for this newspaper. That same year, along with Julio Malaga Grenet founded Fantasio, satirical weekly. He became editor of El Comercio (1912) and then to La Prensa. In those years he staged two plays: The Gift (1911) and fulfilling life (1913). In 1914 he became chancellor of the Peruvian consulate in the Spanish city of Barcelona, having to replace the titular consul when he was transferred. But he returned to Peru the following year, due to circumstances arising from the outbreak of the First World War. In 1917 he became secretary of the Ministry of Public Works; the following year he returned to the consulate in Barcelona, where he remained until 1922. Since then devoted himself to journalism, noted for his sharp remarks. He is also remembered as a pioneer in broadcasting in Peru. It was the first artistic director of National Radio of Peru, station set up in 1933 by transformation of the first radio station of Peru, the Peruvian Broadcasting Company, which was inaugurated in 1925.
He died on 4 September 1958 in Lima.
