French actress with Russian, Jewish Egyptian, German and Italian ancestry.
From 1996, Foïs and her theatre troupe, The Royal Imperial Green Rabbit Company, performed daily on the channel Comédie+ in the live program "La Grosse Émission" for two years. During that period, she co-wrote sketches with Pierre-François Martin-Laval, playing a number of characters, like Sophie Pétoncule, of astounding stupidity, and the director Marie-Mûre, pedantic and bossy. They continued the next year on Canal+ and had a bigger audience. In June 2001, Marina separated from the troupe to focus on her film career. She became one of the most productives actresses, appearing in almost three films a year.
Foïs has a younger sister, Giulia Foïs, who is a journalist at Libération, a former columnist in the program Arrêt sur images presented by Daniel Schneidermann on France 5, and a current news anchor on I-Télé. She also has a second sister Elena, who is a hospital doctor, and a brother Fabio, who died in an airplane crash at an aerobatic demonstration.
After being the partner of Maurice Berthélémy, she was the partner of Éric Lartigau. She gave birth to her first child, a son named Lazare, on 3 December 2004 at the Hôpital Saint-Antoine in Paris. She gave birth to her second son Georges on 25 September 2008.
