Biography
Irish-born American Roman Catholic priest who emigrated to the USA in 1904. He attended university and became a priest in Nebraska. Concerned about the juveniles who were homeless, troubled or deprived, he founded Boys Town in 1917. Flanagan's work became widely known, especially after he was played by Spencer Tracy in the movie Boys Town (1938). While in Germany, Flanagan died on 15 May 1948 at age 61 of a heart attack in Berlin.
