Biography
German developmental biologist and philosopher; the founder of Experimental Embryology. He began his career at the Marine Biological Station at Naples 1891-1900, providing evidence that the same genetic material enters all cells. In 1908 he delivered the Gifford Lectures, then took up a new career in academic philosophy, becoming a Professor of Systematic Philosophy at Cologne 1919, and Leipzig 1921. Toward the end of his life he became a prominent member of the British Society for Parapsychology. Died 4/17/1941, Leipzig, Germany.
