Italian surgeon and teacher, considered the most prestigious Italian surgeon between the two world wars. He published more than 200 scientific articles. In addition to abdominal surgery he was involved in urology, hematology, and oncology. His treatise on abdominal surgery was highly regarded and known.
In 1919 he founded the Italian Archive of Surgery and on the twenty-fifth anniversary of his teaching in 1938 he was honoured with 600 scientific publications sent by colleagues, collected in five volumes of the periodical.
He died in Milan on 21 January 1946, aged 66. After his death, his colleagues set up the Donati Foundation, which acquired and managed his very own library. In 1970 it was donated to the Library of the Maggiore Hospital in Milan.
