Biography
French poet and writer. He appeared in Jean Cocteau's film The Blood of a Poet (1930) and became Cocteau's muse, the subject of a series of erotic portraits. After seven years together, he left Cocteau and moved in with his mother and sister. He married Madeleine Peltier on 12 August 1937.
During the German occupation, he joined the resistance network Intelligence Service under the pseudonym F2 Duroc. He commanded the Marine Network F2 which monitored maritime movements of the Channel. He was arrested by the Gestapo and died on 6 July 1944 while being tortured for refusing to speak. He was posthumously awarded a Gold Cross.
