Dutch gnostic mystic and co-founder of the Lectorium Rosicrucianum (LR), an international esoteric school based on Gnostic ideas of Christianity.
She was born as Hendrikje Huizer in Rotterdam, but took on the spiritual pen-name Catharose de Petri, being made of the Cathars (Catha), the Rosicrucian (Rose) and the Holy Grail (Petri).
On Christmas evening 1930 she met the brothers Leene, according to the LR website. She joined them in sharing their "methodic pilgrimage". At least one method used by them could be called esoteric astrology. This can also be the reason why she did hide her birthday. Later she adopted the spiritual name Catharose de Petri.
From the year 1946 they travelled repeatedly to Southern France, in pursuit of the remaining Cathars. In 1956 in Southern France Jan van Rijckenborgh and Catharose de Petri met Antonin Gadal, who identified himself as the last patriarch of the Cathars, a chain reaching back through the ages in a secret tradition. According to the quoted source Gadal then turned over the mandate-for-life of Grand Master to Mr van Rijckenborgh and Archideaconate to de Petri.
After the death of Jan van Rijckenborgh, July 17, 1968, the spiritual leadership came under the Grand Mastership of Mrs Stok/Catharose de Petri. After her death on 10 September 1990, the day to day administration has been charged to an “International Spiritual Leadership” of seven men from various European countries.
