Biography
Irish hero in the nation's struggle for independence, best remembered for his daring strategy during the campaign of guerilla warfare during the intensification of the Anglo-Irish conflict 1919-21. He was a British civil servant in London in 1916 when he returned home.
Collins was killed aged 31 on 22 August 1922 at around 20:45 at Béal na Bláth, near Macroom Co. Cork. He had signed the Treaty with the British Government (which he called his own death warrant) on 6 December 1921, 2:10 AM in Westminster, UK.
