Biography
American scientist, a meteorologist and oceanographer cited as a leading pioneer in weather prediction. The founder of the National Center for Atmospheric Research, he studied the structure of hurricanes, the dynamics of ocean currents and wave energy. During WW II, Charney trained weather officers, 1941-45. He had a Ph.D. in meteorology, earned in 1946 and reaped many awards in his field.
Charney died of cancer 6/16/1981, Boston, MA.
