Biography
American homicide; a cop-killer. Buntion was a passenger in a car driven by a friend that was stopped by motorcycle policeman Jim Irby (born 5/25/1953) for making an illegal turn. As Officer Irby talked to the driver, Buntion got out, shot the policeman in the head then walked around the car and fired more rounds into his body. As they sped away, he fired indiscriminately, wounding the driver of another car. The incident occurred on 4/10/1990, c. 8:00 PM, Houston, TX.
Buntion had a rap sheet from the time he was a kid for theft, burglary, drug possession and sexual assault, serving time in jail since he was 18. He had at least 7 felony convictions in Texas, and had spent about 17 years behind bars, off and on. In May 1989, he was released after serving 13 months of a 15-year sentence for sexually assaulting a child. He had vowed 19 years earlier to get revenge for the killing of his twin brother, Kenneth. Forgery suspect Kenneth had been shot eight times, killed in a Houston gunfight in April 1971. A younger half-brother, Bobby, was still in a Texas prison.
Buntion was apprehended, taken to trial and convicted of murder.
